BiographyBetween teaching and the stage: engineering, jazz, choirs and improv theatre.

Piano has been part of my life since 1999, when I started taking piano lessons, and I have never stopped studying. I still take lessons with private teachers, because I believe there is always room to grow.

Jazz came into my path early on. In 2013 I completed the jazz piano performance course at JBJazz and, in 2018, I took the 5-Week Program in piano at Berklee, in Boston. It was an experience that deeply shaped the way I play and think about music.

My academic path began in a different field: in 2017 I graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. It was teaching that led me from engineering to music. I started giving piano lessons in 2016, drawn by my experience at summer camps and by a calling that kept growing clearer. Since then I have taught private lessons as well as at several schools and institutions.

Over time I felt the need to deepen my teaching skills and enrolled at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. In 2024 I graduated in Choral Conducting and Musicianship. The degree gave me new tools as a teacher and showed me a field I love: choral conducting. I had the chance to conduct choirs in several performances, and it was a very rewarding experience. It was also through ESML that I joined the ECCE choir, conducted by Paulo Lourenço, where I still sing as a tenor.

Today I split my time between teaching and the stage. In 2018 I founded 4 You, a group with three other singers with whom I perform at weddings and celebrations. Since 2023 I have occasionally worked with LFO as a pianist and keyboardist. That same year I joined Os Instantâneos for one show, and the collaboration has never stopped. It was with them that I discovered my love of musical improvisation in theatre. Since October 2025 I have also been working with Teatroàespada, a project I hope to be part of for a long time. Both of these projects have also pushed me into music production, a skill I have been honing over the last few years.

4 You

Four voices with piano, for weddings, cocktails and events. Classic songs suited to the ceremony, a fun pop repertoire for the cocktail — and special requests to make the party unique.

Piano lessonsThe first lesson is always free and with no commitment — perfect for giving it a try!

I teach a little of every style, drawing on my experience and training in classical music and jazz, depending on what I find each student needs and on their preferences.

My lessons include recitals with all the students (recommended, but not compulsory).

I like students to choose the music, but I also suggest repertoire I find relevant to each student’s reality, and I teach all the theory they need to understand what they are playing.

I teach people of all ages, with a particular focus on young adults, with whom my musical language can have the most impact, and I give beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons.

I teach fluently in Portuguese and English, and I can also teach in Spanish and French.

What to expect from the lessons

  • Lessons tailored to you
  • Learning to play songs quickly and effectively
  • Learning to read sheet music
  • Learning theory applied to music you know and love
  • Building discipline and musicality

What not to expect

  • Generic, one-size-fits-all teaching
  • A passive process where you just do what I say
  • Being made to play the repertoire I like
  • Pressure to take exams or enter competitions
  • Playing the way you want right from the first lesson — but you’ll walk out playing something!

What students say

“João is my piano teacher and, besides being very patient and clear when explaining and teaching (you can tell he was born to do it), he has a sense of humour and good taste, which makes the long road of learning the piano enjoyable and challenging! I recommend this teacher and, if I could, I would give him 6 stars”

“João Eiró is a teacher who manages to adapt to each student’s pace, interests and goals! Giving students the freedom to choose the songs they would like to play, and keeping motivation high, he adapts the theory and builds a lesson plan over time! For me it is an excellent investment, and every lesson is a great challenge and really interesting.”
Manuel M.Piano student

“I started my lessons about 2 months ago. I had played the piano as a child and decided to pick it up again at 25. Very versatile teaching, adapted to each student’s needs and personal interests. Creativity and dedication that kept the lessons going even during lockdown, through high-quality video calls. Highly recommended!”
